Post-Secondary Education

The Post Secondary Assistance Program has been funding students through university and college since 1991. Students from Annapolis Valley, Bear River, Glooscap, and Pictou Landing First Nations can apply for financial support from The CMM to help with tuition books and living costs.

First Nations Post-Secondary students in Halifax can visit the Native Counseling Unit located at Dalhousie University. Students have access to an onsite education counselor, use of computer/internet and can make connections with other First Nations students.

The Post-Secondary Education Program also has opportunities for younger students. Four Sammy Gehue Achievement Awards are granted annually to deserving Mi'kmaq students between the ages of 5 and 12 years old. A teacher or community member must nominate students for the award. Nominees must exemplify strength and determination in overcoming difficulties. Areas of recognition include, but are not limited to, academics, sports, environmental contributions, music, and fine arts. Click Here for Sammy Gehue Awards application form(pdf. format).
