Agency: The Mi'kmaq Legal Support Network - MLSN delivers justice support services to Mi'kmaq and Aboriginal Peoples living in Nova Scotia.

Position: Case Worker/ Court Worker

Location: Covering South Shore and Valley areas, and the Mi'kmaq the communities of Horton, Cambridge, Acadia and Bear River First Nations and surrounding areas.

Specific Requirements:

  • University degree preferred
  • Mi'kmaq language an asset
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Mi'kmaq culture and communities
  • Knowledge of Canadian Justice System and Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program
  • Ability to work with families and youth in crisis
  • Must possess good communication skills and public speaking skills
  • Computer skills required
  • Must posses valid Nova Scotia Driver's license and have access to a vehicle.
  • Must pass Criminal Record Screening and Child Abuse Register
  • General Description:
    This individual will be responsible for case management and delivery of the Mi'kmaw Court Worker and Mi'kmaq Customary Law Programs. This individual must be able to facilitate group discussions and encourage individuals in expressing emotions and feelings. As a Court Worker, this individual will provide support to Aboriginal People in Nova Scotia who are seeking information regarding the criminal justice system. This individual must maintain a strong community focus and be involved in all aspects of MLSN.
