The First Nations Forestry Program (FNFP) is a partnership between the Government of Canada and First Nations Communities. FNFP works at empowering First Nations communities with the skills and knowledge to sustain their forests. The program aids First Nations of Nova Scotia in managing forests independently while participating in forestry development and forest-based economy.

As a program of The CMM, First Nations Forestry Program of Nova Scotia has initiated several forestry projects for all Nova Scotia First Nations communities. Some of these projects include:

  • Operation of a sawmill in Acadia First Nation
  • Clean-up efforts in Indian Brook after the area was damaged by Hurricane Juan
  • Supports Envirothon, an educational opportunity for Grade 10-12 students to learn more about the natural environment, develop projects and compete with other schools
  • On going Black Ash research
  • Youth Initiative: Survive and Stay Alive and Junior Rangers

First Nations Forestry is currently in the final stages of publication for "Awakening, Living with Today's Forest". This long-awaited forestry manual will be launched in June 2006.
