Sammy Gehue Acievement Award - 1st Place - Rashawn Bernard

Rashawn is 8 years old and he lives in Eskasoni where he was enrolled in Grade 2 Mi’kmaw Immersion. He will be entering grade 3 Mi’kmaw Immersion in September.
Rashawn was a top student in reading Mi’kmaq.
Rashawn is an Excellant reader, writer and speaker in the Mi’kmaw Language.

Rashwan’s mom Kyla Bernard recommended Rashawn for this award.


Sammy Gehue Acievement Award - 2nd Place - Michael Willis

Michael is 9 years old from Indian brook.
Michael has shown great improvement in his reading level this year.
In fact, he went up 5 levels in his reading.  Great Job! 

Michael’s teacher Susan Morrison recommended Michael for this award.

Sammy Gehue Acievement Award - 3rd Place - Melanie Hardy-Bernard

Melanie is 11 years old from Waycobah.
Melanie has contributed to the fight against addictions.
She helped in producing a video with the NADAC Peer Helpers dealing with Tobacco addictions. In the video it has a puppet show showing tobacco misuse.

Melanie’s mom Karen Bernard recommended Melanie for this award.

Sammy Gehue Grade 12 Graduate Scholarship Award - Winner - Golipie Julian

Golipie Julian of Paq’tnkek is this year’s winner.
Golipie is the son of Albert and Judy Julian.
Golipie has worked hard to get where he is today.
Through his schooling he found Mathematics difficult, but persevered and got through it.

Some things took time away from his classes such as deaths in his family and community. These events helped him get to where he is today. They made him work harder and not give up.

Golipie has volunteered at a Women’s Resource Centre. This experience he says was the most eventful and life- changing experience he ever had. There he taught about Healthy Relationships.

Golipie also helps out at other community events, whether he is asked to or not.

Golipie has been accepted into the plumbing program at the Nova Scotia Community College.
