Technical Services

At The CMM, Technical Services provide mapping services, housing inspections and assists with capital project implementation and infrastructure maintenance. Technical Services uses GIS and GPS technology to collect extensive data for waterlines, roads, buildings, gravesites and other infrastructures throughout The CMM's member communities. This information has also been used to update civic addresses for all mainland Mi'kmaq communities. This ensures accurate Emergency Response (911) in all communities.

In addition, information obtained by Technical Services has helped with other programs of The CMM including First Nations Forestry, The Mi'kmawey Debert Cultural Centre and Lands.

Technical Services maintains a database of community assets detailing mechanical and electrical systems, interior layouts, exterior foot and many other features.

Under a contractual agreement with Canadian Mortage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Technical Services provides inspection services for new housing starts as well as Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) for First Nations throughout Mainland Nova Scotia. Air quality investigation and housing condition reports are generated upon request from member communities.

Asset Condition Reporting System (ACRS) reports are prepared annually for each of the 13 Nova Scotia First Nations. From the information provided through the ACRS inspections, Technical Services can provide recommendations for maintenance that will keep all assets in good operating condition for the community.
